airborne Norman ?
Hello all,
Can any historian of the make either confirm or deny whether a wartime product may or may not have been built by 'Norman' ? The Shorts 'Sunderland' flying boat, built on the Medway and at Belfast, was equipped with an auxiliary power unit to provide electricity for engine starts etc. The very neat little engine is an air cooled, four stroke, horizontal twin. At a rough guess of about 350 ccs capacity. The engine is a true horizontally opposed unit and curiously has two con rods in one piston and one in the other ! I know someone who has three of these engines and he told me that he thought that they had been built by 'Norman.' Can anyone out there help ? Many thanks.
