just a note to introduce myself as a custodian of a 1939 deluxe motobyk(girder forks)
in RAF grey. I have owned the bike for a a few months and mostly done exploratory work on its history and I am currently in the process of getting it registered. The plan is not to restore the bike at all, other than remove any traces of hammerite and make the bike safe and authentic . The most confusing thing about the bike is the maroon pin striping on the paintwork. I was led to believe that it was an RAF messenger bike, and with Fred Norman being in the Raf in the 1st war, it seemed like a likely story. However, the pin striping seems a little extreme, something the RAF would not have done. Was the detail put on post war? or is the colour a coincidence? The grey is clearly painted over factory black, and I have read that Fred Norman had supplied airfields with this model. I also understand that that the Norman factory supplied Guy Gibson of Dam busters fame with an autocycle and I am desperate to see a photo of him which I am told exists. Regardless of the true history of my individual bike, I am very proud and excited about getting it going and look forward to seeing you all at the next meeting - Adam[img][/img]
